A position is open for a medical doctor with specialization in Immunology and Transfusion Medicine at the Blood Bank and Immunological Services of Landspitali University Hospital, Reykjavík, Iceland. The position is 100%, unless otherwise agreed.
The Blood Bank and Immunological Services at Landspitali University Hospital is a new core department created by merging of the Blood Bank and the Department of Immunology at Landspitali hospital. After this merging, the new core department has approximately 100-110 employees, including medical doctors, biomedical scientists, biologists, chemists, nurses, and office staff. The department provides comprehensive blood bank and immunology services, and it is the only department of its kind in Iceland.
The department operates comprehensive blood bank services, including donor recruitment, blood collection, blood component processing, stem cell processing, tissue typing (HLA), as well as a running research projects in connection with the above-mentioned services. The immunology section of the department provides specialized diagnostic services for rheumatic and autoimmune diseases, allergies, immune deficiencies, and other immune system dysfunctions. A variety of immunological techniques are used to diagnose and assess the immune system. The department also operates an outpatient clinic for patients with allergies, immunodeficiences and other immunological disorders.
Furthermore, the Blood Bank and Immunological Services provide intensive teaching for university students, practical training of students in various health related disciplines, and high-quality scientific research in collaboration with partners, both within and outside the hospital. The department has formal ties with the Medical Faculty of the University of Iceland as well as with the Reykjavík University.
The working atmosphere is characterized by ambition, cooperation, support, and a good team spirit. Work is carried out in strong interdisciplinary teams within the department and in close collaboration with other units at Landspitali.
MAIN PROJECTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- General specialist work at the Blood Bank and Immunological Services of Landspítali.
- Review of laboratory results, including interpretation and advice.
- General advice in immunology and blood banking to Landspítali employees, as well as to other institutions and professionals in Iceland.
- Supervision of specific research areas of expertise.
- Development and implementation of new research methods in collaboration with the department's directors and other staff.
- Participation in quality work and follow-up.
- Participation in teaching and scientific research.
- Teaching and supervision of university students and medical doctors specializing in various fields of medicine.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Medical license, preferably within EU/EES, UK or USA.
- Specialist training and license in Immunology and Transfusion Medicine.
- Enthusiasm, positive attitude, flexibility, and good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
- Knowledge and experience in safety and quality work is an advantage.
- Experience in teaching and basic/clinical research is desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
