Chief Physician of Breast Imaging Department at Landspitali University Hospital

We are looking for an ambitious and visionary leader who possesses the skills and experience to lead a team of clinicians, drive clinical practice, provides cross-functional leadership and deliver excellent patient care in cooperation with the Landspitali Breast Center team.
This is a unique opportunity to be a leader for the Breast Imaging service nationwide.
In addition, the chief physician plays an important role in teaching and building scientific work within the specialty.
The employment ratio is 100% and the job is granted from September 1st, 2024 or according to further agreement. The immediate superior is the chief physician of the Breast Center.
The Landspitali Breast Center provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services as well as overseeing the implementation of breast screening in Iceland. Great emphasis is placed on multidisciplinary collaboration and a service-oriented approach where the activities are constantly evolving. The department provides multiple services and is at the forefront of mammography and Breast imaging nationwide. The facilities are good and the department is very well equipped.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Professional responsibility for the structure, organisation and development of the mammography and breast imaging department
- Ensures that safety, quality and improvement efforts are carried out
- Professional responsibility for education and scientific work relating to the specialty
- Responsibility for the operation of mammography and breast imaging towards the National Radiation Protection Authority
- Professional responsibility through the implementation and reading of breast screening nationwide
- Human resources responsibilities, i.e. responsibility for human resources development and for the day-to-day management of employees at the work unit
- General consultant practice in the mammography and breast imaging Unit of the Breast Center
- Participation in teaching health professions
- Participation in quality and improvement work
Qualification requirements
- Icelandic imaging specialist license
- A clinical background in breast Radiology, knowledge and experience in safety, quality and improvement work
- Extensive knowledge of breast screening and ability to lead and organise screening activities
- Leadership skills and ability to lead improvement efforts and change
- Skills and experience in managerial roles
- Positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
- Teaching and scientific experience with a vision for the future in these fields
- Initiative and ambition to succeed
- If Icelandic is not a mother tongue, good knowledge and English skills are required

Salary according to the current collective agreement concluded by the Minister of Finance and the Economy and the Medical Association of Iceland.
